BRIEF
01
Branding for a new Philharmonic orchestra based in Scotland.
The Scottish Philharmonic Orchestra were looking for a brand solution that stood out from their competitors, whilst at the same time having a visual identity that wouldn't look like it didn't belong alongside existing Orchestral branding.
The Scottish Philharmonic were looking for branding that conveyed themes of professionalism, style and suggested bringing in hints of its Scottish roots, without resorting to clichéd imagery such as thistles or Saltires.
SOLUTION
02
The solution we took was to show that an orchestra is the sum of all it's parts. With this approach in mind, we took the abbreviated lettering and arranged it to form the body of a string instrument. We then incorporated a Celtic colour scheme into the separate elements, most prominently Satire Blue. We chose the visual of a stringed instrument as it's silhouette is immediately identifiable and by far the most common instrument type in an orchestral ensemble.
Along with the logo, we also produced stationery, web elements and various promotional material.
RESULT
03
The result is a logo that is unique, eye-catching and easily recognisable. The Art Deco style ensures that it will endure years without looking dated, and the no-nonsense Sans Serif font conveys a modern touch of class.
